SUMMARY:French Corridor Expedition
DESCRIPTION:Join Big Muddy Adventures Founder and Senior Guide “Big Muddy” Mike Clark and guest guide Chef Josh Galliano on an amazing culinary journey through the historic Middle Mississippi River Valley! \nThe French Corridor Expedition will take paddlers down the Mississippi River from St. Louis to Ste. Genevieve. Our journey will highlight the historic connection between river travel\, food\, and the great cultures that have explored\, inhabited\, and settled in the valleys of the Great Rivers. Along the way\, guests will experience the river islands and historic places settled by the French in the 17th and 18th centuries. To complement the sights and sounds of the Mighty Mississippi\, guest guide and good friend of BMA\, Chef Josh Galliano\, will prepare “campfire gourmet” meals highlighting local Missouri ingredients. \nOur trip will start with a morning meetup at the BMA warehouse where our expert guides will assist in packing up your gear into our 29-foot voyageur canoes and then we’ll shuttle to the put-in. The trip will cover approximately 55 miles on the Mississippi River and includes all meals\, snacks\, canoes\, paddling gear and transportation. No paddling experience or special equipment is necessary\, we’ve got you covered! Guests will need to provide their own tent and sleeping bag or rent one from BMA for an additional charge.

SUMMARY:One-Eyed Dog 100/50/24/12 Mile
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the One-Eyed Dog! This cross-country endurance race is held over some of the most rugged and unforgiving sections of the Ozark Trail. Just when you think you can catch your breath going down\, you’re facing back up a hill grinding out over rocks and roots. Boasting the only 100-mile\, 100% singletrack race in the USA and over 11\,000 feet climbing\, the OED100 mile is a grueling challenge that tests one’s physical and mental toughness. Finishing in daylight is a right of passage for any cross-country OED 100-mile endurance racer. \nIf the OED100 mile sounds too rough\, the OED50 mile is sure to suit. Similarly\, it takes you over some incredible Ozark Trail single track that is fast and undulating with 4\,900 feet of climbing. You will get some reprieve with approximately 9 miles of gravel that loops the trail back around to a single track. Want to challenge yourself further but do not want to ride 100 miles? Enter the single-speed category and take yourself to a whole new level of hurt! \nIf you’re new to the sport or just want to be at the finish line to cheer on your mates because you’re there for the party but not necessarily the pain\, the OED24 or OED12 mile is for you. One or two laps around Council Bluff over technical rocky\, rooty terrain will give you your race fix but have you back at race camp with a cold beer in hand in no time.

SUMMARY:Run for Freedom
DESCRIPTION:The 22nd annual Run for Freedom 5K and 10K\, sponsored by the West Central Missouri Veterans Assistance League (VAL)\, will be at 8 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. Runners from all over West Central Missouri and Eastern Kansas participate in this event to help enhance the lives of the veterans who live at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. \nThe event offers a 5K and 10K run that is USATF certified and uses a professional timing company to document running times. \nMedals are presented to the top three finishers in each age category for the run by the veterans who live at the home. They love being able to give back to those who are instrumental in making the final chapters of their lives better. \nProceeds will go towards programs that improve the quality of our veterans’ lives. In 2023\, we were able to purchase a Tovertafel for our Alzheimer’s unit\, bring the American Veterans Traveling Tribute exhibit to the home\, take a group of veterans on an overnight trip to Branson\, bring in a variety of special meals like steak\, shrimp and lobster\, host a weekly hour with live entertainment and so much more. \nThis is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who have done so much for our freedom and for our country. Come Run for Freedom!
