SUMMARY:Shrewsbury Thrifty Fifty
DESCRIPTION:A midwinter celebration and untimed run-walk-roll. \nChoose a goal:   50 minutes\,   50 kilometers\, or   50 miles \nEVENTS:\n50 MINUTES: Group Send-Off at 10:00 a.m. Run\, walk\, roll\, dance\, or strut your way around the park. Decorations\, art\, crafts\, music\, costumes\, signs\, posters\, cowbell-clanging\, etc. are strongly encouraged. When you reach your goal of 50 minutes of continuous movement\, ring the big bell to celebrate! \n50 KILOMETERS: 6:00a. – 6:30p. Make your way around the loop 46 times\, and you have completed a true ultramarathon distance on a challenging (but fun & supportive) course. Ring the big bell to celebrate! Check in with the organizers so we can personalize your trophy! \n50 MILES: 6:00a. – 6:30p. Make your way around the loop 75 times\, and you have completed a true ultramarathon distance on a challenging (but fun & supportive) course. Ring the big bell to celebrate! Check in with the organizers so we can personalize your trophy! 50 mile participants are encouraged to begin as early as possible. It is very difficult and takes a long time. But you can do it! \nRegistration is encouraged (and free*)\, but anyone can join for ANY distance\, at ANY time\, or just hang out. Enjoy positivity\, art\, music\, and fellowship to cast-off those winter doldrums! \nTHE COURSE: A .66 mile loop on asphalt trail and concrete sidewalk. 3 loops = 2 miles. The trail includes 1 hill and 2 flat sections. Loop direction will be clearly marked and will change every hour. \nEach loop includes 49 feet of elevation gain. This makes the course challenging. To illustrate: The NYC marathon has a total elevation gain of 810 feet and is considered a very hilly marathon. 26 miles on the Thrifty Fifty course will get you 1\,911 feet of elevation gain. \nACCOMODATIONS: We will provide Gatorade\, water\, nutrition\, a few electrical outlets\, and restrooms. We will provide thumb-click lap-counters. Participants will rely on their own electronic devices for digital data. Results are “on your honor.” This is analog. \n*To offset pretzel costs\, we will accept 50-cent cash contributions at the event – a mere suggestion\, not a fee. Pocket change for pretzels.

SUMMARY:Flat Branch Ultra
DESCRIPTION:Flat Branch Ultra (50K) – Start in Columbia\, MO\, home to the approximately 400-year-old Bur Oak. Race along the Missouri River and beneath towering bluffs while watching for soaring eagles. This rails-to-trails adventure kicks off at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday in February. \nStart/Finish Line: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at 800 West Stadium Blvd\, Columbia\, Missouri 65203. \nOnly 125 spots are available\, and we anticipate a sellout. \nThe race is named after Flat Branch Creek\, a vital water source for early settlers. The tree in our logo represents the nearly 400-year-old Bur Oak that can be seen about 8.5 miles into the race. At the start\, competitors will head southwest on the MKT (Missouri-Kansas-Texas) Trail for about 7.5 miles before intersecting the Katy Trail just west of McBaine. From there\, they will head west on the Katy Trail. The Halfway Home aid station is located just east of Rocheport–past the I-70 bridge. This course is an out and back. \nRoute Map: https://www.strava.com/activities/12519245012 \nThe race debuted in 2022 as a November event\, starting and ending at Flat Branch City Park in Columbia\, Missouri. In 2024\, the race moved to February. In 2025\, the start/finish line was relocated to MLK Memorial Park in Columbia\, Missouri. In 2026\, the Flat Branch Ultra course will become USATF-certified — your chance to chase a 50K state record! Along the course\, participants pass the iconic\, approximately 400-year-old Bur Oak — a living landmark and the inspiration for our logo.

SUMMARY:The Green Dragon
DESCRIPTION:Yes\, the Green Rock Orienteering Master (GROM) is back but has taken new form. Armed with an updated (Fall 2025) orienteering map by cartographer Jon Torrence\, that will include a tract to the West of Scenic Loop Dr.\, and inspired by Gary Thompson’s upcoming seventh edition of the Tame the Dragon on February 28\, 2026\, we introduce the Green Dragon. \nThis “rogaine” style event will borrow the scoring system from previous Tame the Dragon meets. In a Score-O format\, there will be 18 controls on the course. You will earn between 10-60 points for each control and also earn bonus points for completing sets of similarly valued controls. This format creates a unique strategic blend of endurance and planning as competitors seek to maximize the 4-hour window allotted to them. For visual learners\, see table below. \nFor those who have been hesitant to head to Lake the Ozarks and commit to a full 8-hour rogaine\, this one is right here in St. Louis and only half the time. Beginners are always welcome and will have the chance to go out and obtain controls at their skill level with the knowledge that you are right here in St. Louis County with good cell reception and all within the well-marked Greensfelder Park if you get a bit turned around. Take as much time out there as you like (course closes at 2pm). \nFor the mid-pack racers\, the strategy of the meet opens up an opportunity to level up in the standings if you can plan and execute a strong route. And of course\, for our most competitive folks…\, well\, expect me to run you up and down some hills and find as many parallel errors to bait you as I can. You’ll need all 4 hours to attempt the sweep.

SUMMARY:St. Louis Eagle Days
DESCRIPTION:Eagle lovers of all ages are invited to the Audubon Center at Riverlands in West Alton on February 7\, 2026. No advance registration is required. \nVisitors are welcome to view eagles through spotting scopes staffed by trained volunteers\, and explore activities related to bald eagles. The World Bird Sanctuary will be providing live Bald Eagle programs and chances to see Bald Eagles up close throughout the day. \nEagle presentations will be held at: 9:15 AM; 10:00 AM; 10:45 AM; 11:30 AM; 12:30 PM; and 1:15 PM. These eagle presentations have a capacity of 150 people and will be filled on a first come first serve basis. \nDid you know the Mississippi River hosts one of North America’s largest concentrations of bald eagles? They are drawn to areas of open water in search of fish\, their preferred food. The colder the weather\, the better the chances of seeing them fish\, ride ice floes\, soar overhead and roost in nearby trees!

DESCRIPTION:Held on Morse Park’s HomeStead and RoughRiders trail\, this race qualifies for any New-Year’s resolution to start a healthier and more active lifestyle!\nThis walkers’\, joggers’ and bike trail is a unique treasure in SW Missouri for its nature scenes and location. After that date\, ordered shirts are as-available. \nParticipants receive discount coupon for vendor snacks & drinks. \nAwards to the top male and female runner.\nAwards to male and female age group winners (number of winners depends on depth of the participants’ field).\nFinishers’ medals and hot drinks to all participants. \nRace is limited to first 100 registrations.\nRace may start in gender- and/or group-specific waves (male runners – female runners – families) with a few minutes interval\, depending on the turnout and the weather. \nNO WEATHER CONDITION WILL CANCEL.
