SUMMARY:Giro Della Montagna
DESCRIPTION:The Giro Della Montagna – the third stop of the Gateway Cup! \nThe Hill boasts the finest Italian restaurants anywhere. It is the boyhood home of such baseball legends as Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola. It is a neighborhood that acts as a model for community as generations of families continue to maintain their residence creating a close-knit feel. The neighborhood was settled by Italian immigrants starting in the late 19th Century. The anchor for the community continues to be St. Ambrose Catholic Church\, the Start/Finish site for today’s race. The Italian heritage continues to thrive with the Hill’s variety of Italian restaurants\, bakeries\, taverns\, groceries\, community organizations\, and social clubs. \nTrailnet will once again be hosting one of their most popular recreational rides around St. Louis City. Be a participant and take part in the Trailnet Giro della Montagna Ride and finish the day watching St. Louis’ best criterium bike race. \nThe Giro della Montagna began in 1986 and was the brainchild of life-time Hill resident\, Joe Torrisi. With the help of the St. Louis Cyclones the event took a few years to gain some momentum. It was held over the Fourth of July weekend to draw additional racers who were in town for the VP Fair cycling races which were being held downtown the same weekend. The Giro became the cornerstone of the Gateway Cup in 1998 and more recently has been coordinated by the events group from Big Shark Bicycle Company. The Hill is pleased to continue this great relationship and is looking forward to many more years of Giro\, Giro\, Giro! \nThe Course is called “The Hill” for a reason. Long and rectangular\, the uphill race from Turn 2 to Turn 3 decides the race. Turn 4 leads to a Mach 5 downhill sprint\, making last lap positioning critical.

SUMMARY:Run for Freedom 5K/10K
DESCRIPTION:The 23rd annual Run for Freedom 5K and 10K\, sponsored by the West Central Missouri Veterans Assistance League (VAL)\, will be at 8 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. Runners from all over West Central Missouri and Eastern Kansas participate in this event to help enhance the lives of the veterans who live at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. This is an exciting time for our home as we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary of serving veterans this September. \nThis event offers a 5K and 10K run that is USATF certified and uses a professional timing company to document running times. Participants are allowed to walk the race as well and is family friendly. \nMedals are presented to the top three finishers in each age category for the run by the veterans who live at the home. They love being able to give back to those who are instrumental in making the final chapters of their lives better. \nProceeds from this event go towards programs that improve the quality of life for our veterans. This includes everything from receiving prize money at every bingo game held\, enjoying an ice cold beer or glass of wine at our weekly happy hour\, listening to the sound of live music\, tasting amazing food like steak\, shrimp and lobster and going on outings all over Missouri. \nThis is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who have done so much for our freedom and for our country. Come Run for Freedom!
